Emily Ross is a program associate for UN relations at the United Nations Foundation, where she researches UN policy and relations among countries. Ross holds a master's in international relations from King’s College London and a B.A. in political science from Providence College.

Nongovernmental organizations have broadened their roles substantially in the last 20 years, tackling such important issues as climate change, human rights, disarmament and development. Nowadays, these civil-society groups are more visible than ever, playing direct roles in shaping the global agenda.
